Opening the Door to Contemporary Window Treatment

"Out with old and bland and in with the hip, young and exciting!" This is the average creed of those modern-day individuals with a bit of spice in their style. Where in the past traditional window treatments were mainly based on styles that resonated with tradition and culture, contemporary window treatment reverberates with a sense of modern day jubilation and a craving for patterns, colours and textures not always associated with run-of-the-mill window treatments. It is also a movement in window treatment that is as broad as the imagination. So let's see what we can find out about contemporary window treatment.

As opposed to traditional window treatment methods, contemporary window treatment focuses on clear lines, shapes and borders in the room in question. This means that blinds are a big attraction, especially in kitchens, living rooms and studies - areas where the textures and surfaces are smooth and sleek. Shades also play an important role as these, just like the rest of the room, consist mainly of horizontal and vertical lines without a specifically abstract nature as is the case with curtains and drapes.

But there is a deeper element, one that many might well deem as abstract, which involves the use of retro colours and patterns such as 70's themed curtains with well defined borders and shapes that screams of simplicity yet has a definitive modern style associated with it. Other materials that you might encounter that fall into the category of contemporary window treatment involve paper and drapes and screens with traditional Japanese origami themes. Here are a few more:

Shades:

-Honeycomb shades provide a measure of insulation and will ensure that your house is cool in summer and warm in winter.

-Woven shades are becoming more popular due to the organic element it brings into the room. Woven shades are suitable focal points for most rooms because of its fine patterns and colour.

-Shutters: Choosing the right shutters is paramount to any contemporary window treatment. Wooden shutters with simplistic styles have enjoyed a recent rise in popularity.

-Blinds: Enclosed blinds are easy to operate and have a clean and efficient look about them. Different types of enclosed blinds will supply you with different levels of privacy and regulate the temperature within the room.

One last feature we'll mention of contemporary window treatment is somewhat of a paradox in the sense that it doesn't require any treatment at all. For those with enclosed pools, large untreated windows opening onto the garden or into the house as well as the use of glass ceilings have enjoyed recent surges in demand. This type of contemporary window treatment is also used inside rooms where privacy is not much of an issue and where the contents of the adjacent room adds to the aesthetical appeal. It needs to be said that even though contemporary window treatment is vastly different in the materials and furnishings it uses, the principles of decoration still remain the same.
